Start with the drinks you make
Write down how often you brew espresso, filter coffee and larger batches. An entry grinder that works well for filter is not automatically a good match for an unpressurized espresso basket. Frequent switching also adds adjustment time and wasted coffee.
Baratza positions Encore ESP specifically for espresso adjustment and dosing-cup use. Evaluate standard Encore against your filter needs. For Timemore, specify the complete Sculptor model: 064S, 064S II, 078 and 078S are distinct configurations.
Compare the exact versions
The Sculptor range includes different burr sizes and brewing roles. Do not transfer a motor rating, burr set or adjustment mechanism from one model to another. The reviewed 064S II sheet lists 110 V, 150 W and 4.6 kg; check the electrical version offered by your seller.
The manufacturer’s 064S II dimensions are listed as 220 × 100 × 280 mm without clear axis labels. Keep that raw measurement and request a drawing before using it to determine counter width.
| Question | Encore | Encore ESP | Sculptor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary use to test | Filter and everyday batches | Fine espresso adjustment | Exact model’s stated brew range |
| Preparation | Hopper-based workflow | Dosing cup and hopper adjustment | Check selected model’s dosing workflow |
| Version check | Local electrical version | ESP, not standard Encore | Full model suffix and burr set |
| Cleaning test | Access and reassembly | Access and reassembly | Knocker, burr chamber and reassembly |
Run a repeatable home test
Use one bag of beans, the same dose and your normal brewer. For espresso, record whether one adjustment makes a useful change to shot time without jumping past the desired setting. For filter, compare taste and brew consistency rather than treating burr diameter as a quality score.
Weigh coffee before and after grinding. If you switch brewing methods, measure how much coffee and time it takes to return to the previous setting. Listen during a realistic morning session and check whether the machine fits beneath shelves with its hopper accessible.
Choose for ownership as well as first use
Check local parts, warranty service, cleaning instructions and replacement burr availability. A more elaborate adjustment system is useful only if you will use and maintain it. Include accessories and delivery in the total cost rather than comparing a temporary list price.
Open the Sculptor series, Encore and Encore ESP profiles. For a café workload, use the separate commercial grinder selection guide and test the actual service peak.
Take these questions to a supplier
- How often do I make espresso versus filter coffee?
- Which exact model, burr set and electrical version is offered?
- Can I make useful fine adjustments with my beans?
- How much coffee is needed when switching brewing methods?
- Are replacement parts and local service available?
