Rwanda advances climate-resilient varieties: trials are not current supply

WCR reports a variety-development milestone. Field research does not establish today’s availability or prices.

The research milestone

World Coffee Research reported on 30 September that Rwanda is advancing five coffee varieties, including Geisha, toward commercial trials and release pathways. The decision draws on eight years of performance data. It is not a statement that all five are already widely available.

Why buyers should track the next stage

Our editorial suggestion is to monitor subsequent trial and release notices rather than infer a near-term supply change. A promising variety still needs a clearly identified lot before it can be evaluated as a purchasing option.

Ask about the actual coffee offered

  • Which variety and lot identify this offer?
  • What traceability records accompany the sample and delivery?
  • Is the seller describing a research result or coffee that can actually be supplied?
