SCA explores terroir: origin names are not a substitute for tasting

What was published

SCA’s Coffee Decoded column, published on 6 October, examines terroir in coffee. It discusses the interaction of place, growing conditions and human choices; it does not establish a ranking of producing countries.

Turn the discussion into a buying record

  • For your own shortlist, record the lot, variety and processing information supplied by the seller.
  • Taste shortlisted samples under the same preparation conditions, recording the recipe and tasting date.
  • Keep supplier descriptions separate from your observations so another buyer can repeat the comparison.

Questions before repeat orders

Ask whether the next delivery is the same lot and which identifying documents accompany it. If the lot changes, decide whether to re-taste before committing volume. These are CoffeeFrame’s workflow suggestions, not findings from a comparative trial.
